easter weekend

I am back to regular life (I think) and back to regular posting (I hope)! Going to the blogger meet-up really made me want to be a part of the Houston Blogging Community (and Blogger Community as a whole) so I am not looking to drop this hobby of mine yet.

On to the weekend - I was not lucky enough to have Good Friday off, but I did leave a little early. When I got home, Andrew and I checked out the new Sprouts Farmer's Market in Katy. It was ridiculously crowded, but a lot of the prices were great. It didn't have a lot of variety of products (similar to Trader Joe's), and a lot of their packaged products were organic (similar to Whole Foods), but it didn't have the fun factor of TJ's. I would definitely go back if I had a veggie-heavy shopping week, but I don't know if I need to add it to the regular grocery shopping rotation. After we were done at Sprouts, we did our regular grocery shopping... SUPER exciting Friday Night!

Killen's Steakhouse is supposed to be one of the best in the Houston area. It's actually in Pearland. The chef-owner is starting a BBQ restaurant soon. Until it is done, he plans to run a pop-up shop from his steakhouse on weekends for lunch. Saturday was the first, and of course my husband HAD to be among the first to try it out. After a detour into Midtown for coffee at Blacksmith, we headed to Pearland. We got there at 10 a.m., an hour before opening, and we were about the 10th in line.

The block from the line for food

There were some kinks to work out, especially when serving BBQ in a steakhouse, but the food was delicious. The line was halfway around the restaurant by the time it opened at 11 a.m., but most definitely worth the wait! We tried all four meats (brisket, sausage, beef ribs, and pork ribs), the pulled pork beans (YUM and I am not a baked bean fan), the potato salad (I normally can't stand potato salad at all, but this was actually really good), and the creme brûlée bread pudding (also not a favorite of mine, but I would eat this again!). The meats were awesome - the brisket was tender, sausage was unique, pork ribs were great, and the beef rib was pretty amazing - the peppery coating on it made it memorable. The sauce they make is sweet, and while the meats didn't need it, I really loved it. If you are ever in the area or any kind of BBQ snob, I definitely recommend trying out the pop-up or the restaurant when it opens!

My meal

Instagram makes everything better

We got home and I did taxes (boo!) and tried to work on blog stuff - as you can see, I have a bit of a new look. I wanted something similar that wasn't made by someone else. I hope it doesn't look funky on your computer. {ETA: It looks awful on my work monitor [which is HUGE!] Will fix on my lunch break if possible!} We had a low-key night in since I worked all last weekend and we were busy the weekend before. We also prepped stuff for Easter Brunch.

Our friends (and my old boss) Tammi and Brandon invited us over for Easter. Brandon loves to cook and thought Andrew could teach him a few things! They have three young sons so we just hung out, watched them eat Easter candy, and chatted all day. It was a nice, low-key Easter. I didn't take pics because I feel weird taking pics of someone else's kids to put on the internet - is that just me? That pretty much sums up the weekend - easy and low-key, lots of time at home, just doing what we need to do. I am ready for next weekend, which I have already decided will have NO plans outside of a Friday double date with friends. I can't help it - I love catching up on sleep!

Linking up today!

  1. That bbq looks really good. I live near-ish to Pearland so I plan to try that steakhouse soon.

Lol I have some pictures of the kids at the park running to get eggs. It was a pretty funny action shot but I only know one of the kids so I felt awkward posting it!!

  2. I am dying to check out the new Sprouts! I've been waiting a few days to let the hype and crowds die down. I drove by it today and saw a few open parking spots, so I might swing by tomorrow!

I like comments and read them all but I'm not great about responding to them, so please don't be offended. I would much rather visit your blog instead!
