five quick things for a kinda-holiday friday

If you're like me and you have to work today, your brain is probably super confused. It kinda feels like Monday in that I am sluggish and want to sleep in again, but I know it's Friday, which is always good. And since it is Friday, I want to linkup and share five things I'm happy about.

1) A belated Happy 4th! Andrew and I both have to work today, so we didn't make big plans. He forgot that he made reservations at Oxheart until late last week, so we went there for a late dinner. It was amazing. I have talked about it before, but I will have to post about it again next week.

I went with the vegetarian menu and it was so amazing. This was my favorite dish of the night. Doesn't it look like a flower made of carrots?

2) We have a July 4th lunch every year at work and I'm in charge of it. I like to make the conference room festive, even though I think the other employees think I'm crazy. A few years ago, I used a Martha Stewart tutorial to make double-sided pinwheels and I've been recycling them every year since. This year, I added to the decor and bought paper stars, taped them to skewers, and then cut banners in half to make table runners. We are a non-profit, afterall. I was pretty happy with the results.

3) Still kinda excited about my new button. Any other friends who want to swap? There are so many tutorials out there for DIY blog design. I may try a few new things over the weekend.

4) I have said many times that I want to blog about my wedding. Mainly, just for me because the more time passes, the more I forget. I want to put a spin on it, though, and talk about what I learned in the process of planning my wedding and in working on events now. I'm worried that I will seem like I am stuck living in the past, but on the other hand, I don't really care. I love reading about weddings so I'm sure there are some others who do, too.

5) And finally... saving the best for last... my fun and fabulous nieces are coming to town this week! I love these girls so much and the little one turned five in May and the big one turns 13 on Sunday (sniff sniff... my baby is a teenager!) so some birthday celebratin' with Aunt Lauren is happening. I have a big work event next week but I am going to try to take off a day or two so we can have a day, just the three of us, to go to lunch and the mall or movies or whatever they want to do. And we are spending all day Sunday at my parents' house in the pool and eating. I'll probably be instagramming like crazy. Non-apologies in advance ('cause I'm not really sorry - they will only like hanging out with me for so long so I have to soak it up!)

From their visit in April... Big sister is so sweet to play along with little sister.

So that's about it. We just have to make it through one more day and then we can have a weekend of fun. I hope you have lots of good things planned! How was your 4th? Are you good at DIY party decor, blog design, or anything else? What kind of fun should I plan for a 13 year old and a 5 year old?

  1. Hope you have fun with your nieces! My nephew is also in town this week and next so I'm trying to spend as much time as possible :D

I've been wanting to do wedding blog posts too, even though it has been almost two years, but like you it's more for me to remember all the small details. I think we should both do it!! I'd love to read about yours!

  2. Aw lots of fun things! :) And I'll swap buttons with you! :)

  3. You're gonna have to educate me on "swapping buttons" LOL I'm a newbie :)

  4. I think your decorations look really good! Love the button!

  5. Thanks, LaDawn! Did you know you're a no reply comment blogger? I would LOVE to respond to you directly but I can't!

  6. Yum those carrots look good! I need to try Oxheart. Your decorations are cute! Recycling them every year is the way to go!
I want to blog about my wedding too! Made the wedding page and all, but it still says coming soon.
Maybe y'all can go to discovery green (is it too hot?!) or ice skating? Have fun! :)

I like comments and read them all but I'm not great about responding to them, so please don't be offended. I would much rather visit your blog instead!
