five things to be happy about

Annoyance of the week: whining over first world problems. We all have them, but if all I hear from someone is how hard their life is, then honestly? I don't want to hear what they have to say anymore. I am far from happiness and sunshine all the time but I try really hard to keep perspective and be happy about little things. And these are some things currently making me happy on this lovely fall Friday.

1) The anticipation of Christmas music: This is the shortest that the Christmas season could ever be, I'm pretty sure, so it feels like Thanksgiving is taking its sweet time getting here and Christmas will be here and gone before we know it. I am trying to force myself to not listen to Christmas music (specifically, Michael Buble's amazing CD. Get it now and thank me later!) until at least the week leading up to Thanksgiving. But it's so hard. Looking forward to it is making me excited for the whole season, though.

2) Hot chocolate: Coffee is great year-round, but I can only do hot chocolate when it's cold. This week, it was cold and the hot chocolate was amazing. I grew up with powdered hot chocolate mixed with water but of course now have upped my game to fancy hot chocolate shavings with milk. YUM. The Williams-Sonoma hot chocolate mix makes a great gift, just saying.

3) Coworkers who just get me: I am not a normal Crate and Barrel shopper but one of my coworkers brought in the catalog for me because so much of it "looked like me." She was so right. I just want to buy the entire store and then ask the staff to come decorate my house. Is that too much to ask? I spent more than a few minutes ooh-ing and ahh-ing over everything and I think I may have to get a few things soon...

This laser cut village is so simple and cute | I think the galvanized collar is so cool instead of a tree skirt and I kind of want to make a paper version of the metallic garland....

4) Time to be: The last few weeks, I have been stressed and tired and just... ew. This week was great. I have had time to answer emails, read blogs, keep up with twitter, watch TV, gchat, and just do little things that make me happy. Sometimes life gets in the way of the little things and I'm glad that wasn't the case this week.

5) A change is gonna come: I started blogging under a completely different name and then went with Method to my Madness because... I don't know, I liked how it sounded? If I came across my blog name, I would think it was about a woman who was blogging about living with a mental illness or something. I know what I mean by the title, but it isn't easy to figure out from the get-go. After lots of brainstorming, I think I have come up with something simple that will be my new online identity. Much more me and and a better idea of what my blog is about. Plus, I will finally buy a domain. I am super excited but committed to staying with DIY blog design so it might take me a while to make the swap. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later because I am ready to change my twitter and instagram right now!

I hope to spend my weekend having a new food experience or two and maybe getting some Christmas shopping done. Hope you have a great one!

  1. I agree with all five of these reasons! Too many times this week I have wanted to say, "shut up, those are first world problems!" This includes to myself!

I love that galvanized collar for a Christmas tree instead of a skirt. Who can have a skirt with kitties around?!

I am putting off listening to Christmas music buuuut I really want to. So ready!
On my post today I said I needed some hot chocolate. :)
Oh and our gchat convos made this week so MUCH better!

I am excited to hear about the blog name change!! Happy Friday friend! Longest comment eva!

  4. I'm excited for this change and have saved a TON of DIY design sites in my favorites bar if you are looking for something you can't find.

I'm all about DIY design too, no reason to pay for something I can do on my own even though I sometimes find myself wanting to.

  5. i hear you on complaining about first world problems! i've been hearing a lot about that lately and my only response to those constant whiners is "typhoon haiyan". that shuts them up fast.

looking forward to the identity change! i've often thought about changing my blog name again...something along the lines of "sardonic asshole" but i wonder if that's too much? LOL we'll see...

  6. I changed my blog name and domain a year+ ago. I always DIY my header but I just had someone do new social media icons for me. I HATE doing them.

Time to just be is so so so important. It rejuvenates you.

Crate & Barrel is my jam.

  7. I'm curious about the name change! And now I am sort of craving hot chocolate.

I am especially sick of people whining about lifestyle choices that they made. You (hypothetical general "you") wanted to have kids or be a nurse, so stop acting like a damn martyr who is doing us all a favor.

  8. Oooohhh I love it when a blog takes on a new identity. And I can't wait to see what it is. And I started listening to Christmas music on pandora and on XM this week. I can only do it for a little while every day, but it's always fun to listen to. While I have kept my word on NOT lighting the Christmas tree this week... that just might change come tomorrow. I'm about to bust!! Happy Friday!! And thanks for linking up! Y'all have a wonderful weekend, and enjoy some hot chocolate for me!

  9. Ok, so I am totally guilty in listening to Christmas music way too early. Like, I started a few weeks ago. But I say, it is never too early to be joyous and cheery about Christmas! I grew up with powdered hot chocolate mix in water too, and that is what I have been doing this year. Now you have made me feel lazy and I need to stop up my game!

I cant wait to see your new blog identity and design! It took me a few weeks to get mine switched over too because I wanted to do it myself.

  10. Some stations have already switched over to all Xmas music all the time. Craziness! I am trying to hold out till Thanksgiving too. I found Hot Chocolate K-cups and they are amazing! That village is so cute!! Glad it has been a less stressful week!!

  11. Confession: I have definitely been listening to Christmas music since Nov 1. I figure I'm allowed though, since I'm Canadian and we already had Thanksgiving here haha. And I'm excited to see the new blog name, even though for the record, I never assumed that your blog was about living with mental illness haha. Have a great weekend!

  12. Ooh ooh what's your new name going to be? I still love method to my madness tho, maybe it should take it when I change my name again lol

I hear you on Christmas music! I've been wanting to wait til after thanksgiving but 3 weeks is too short so I may start playing it in my classroom next week. :)

  16. I can't wait to hear what the new name is going to be.

Also, I was flipping through the C&B catalog the other day. A lot of their things are way out of my price range, but my goodness, their Christmas stuff is CUTE.

    Have an awesome weekend!

  17. Iactually never thought about the mental illness...but everytime I see it now that will be what I think! Hahaha!

I am with you on the Christmas thing. I said the week of Turkey day is when I can turn on the tunes! Crate and Barrel in the downfall of any bank account...

  18. Every time I read your posts, I have so much to comment on! I'll try to be succinct :) I think we switched attitudes this week, I was busy and distracted while you floated on clouds :) But I'm glad you're schedule is easing up for you. Hot chocolate: I found a crock pot nutella hot chocolate recipe on Pinterest that looks delish! You should try it! Crate and barrell: LOVE that store! I got that catalog and fell in love too. If we were rich, we could decorate our mansions with it! Name change: I'm so excited for you to go in this direction! If you want, we still could do a blog work date at a coffee shop during the transition. We could give each other tips for improvement! And for the record, I never once thought your title was about mental illness! haha

I like comments and read them all but I'm not great about responding to them, so please don't be offended. I would much rather visit your blog instead!
