blogging made me do it

I read blogs long before I started mine, and even though I read without commenting, I felt a connection to several bloggers. They would blog about a thing and then I would want it - like getting a book recommendation from a friend. But, if we know anything about blogging, we know that bloggers have some expensive taste. So, I'm here to tell you what I've bought because of blogging and whether I think it's worth your hard-earned cash.
I'm lazy so I only used my own pics that I already had on my phone. Tory Burch pic from here, Alex and Ani pic here. No Sharpie Pen pics, but you can see that Bauer liked my planner and my ear selfie from my first pair of KS earrings.

Tory Burch Revas: I got mine two years ago, long before I entered blog land. I always wear a 6.5 in shoes so I ordered these in that size. The first time I wore them, it was with tights, so they hurt my feet but I assumed they would stretch. Two years later and they still kill them. They are super cute so I would be lying if I said I wouldn't buy another pair, but it's hard to justify the price when they hurt! Next time I'll go a half-size up as that's a common complaint. I have also heard the ones with a leather logo are more comfortable than those with the metal logos.

Life Planner: You guys know the one I'm talking about. I know this company is active on social media so I don't want to call them out. Honestly? This is the cutest waste of space on my desk. I use it because I spent so much money on it, but it's so big I hate carrying it with me, it makes me feel a little too young in my conservative work environment, and I hate the way the days are set up. Since I don't carry it with me, the pocket and zipper pouch are useless, and since I use it for work, the stickers go unused. I don't want to sit at my desk color-coding dates when there's work to be done! This could be a very good investment for someone else, but it really wasn't for me. I still use it at work and will do so through 2014, but I won't purchase another. Target planners can do the same thing without my name on the cover!

Kendra Scott Earrings: I saw the Danielles everywhere and thought they were really cute, but just too big for me. Once the Elles were introduced, I was sold. I lusted over them for a long time and received a pair as a gift from my boss. I've since gotten several more pairs of KS earrings, either from Gilt Groupe (great prices! And that is a referral link.) or as gifts. They're kind of pricey, but on sale or as a gift, I love them. They're heavy, the gold doesn't show any signs of wear, and the stones are really pretty. Sign up for the mailing list and there is a sale every Wednesday - you don't have to pay full price!

Alex and Ani Bracelets: These are new to me, and I saw them on several bloggers' gift lists over the holidays, so I thought I would add them to mine. I added two and honestly forgot about them until I opened them up at Christmas. I like that they're adjustable and one that I chose says "Live a Happy Life," which is a nice reminder. I'm happy with them and would love to get and give them as gifts.

Sharpie Pens: I can't remember if I got these before or after blogland exploded with how great they are, but I definitely agree with the sentiment. They don't bleed and they're a great thickness. The pastel colors are super light - they don't show up on copies - but I love the dark colors.

I'm sure there are more, but these are ones that I use and see the most often. Have you been swayed into buying anything at the urging of blogland? Anything you want to suggest to me?

  1. never. i research the HELL out of anything i buy before i buy it because this cheap chinawoman hates wasting money. and i hear you on the size of that planner - while it's the most adorable thing ever, i want something small that will fit into my purse and that just isn't small enough.

  3. I love the heft of the EC - but I'm a former Franklin Covey planner girl who used to tote around a zillion pound leather portfolio planner. I love it.

I love Alex & Ani bracelets too. I have one and two more are on my wish list.

Otherwise I haven't fallen prey to much of the blogger bonanza on stuff.

I am not a Tory Burch fan period, never have been. And I refuse to pay that much for flats.

  4. I bought the IWYP shirt this month if that counts.

I want a planner so badly but like you I know I'd never us it so I'll just save my $50. :)

  5. I don't have a single one of these things, am I a bad blogger?! I would never pay $200+ for a pair of flats because I have never met a pair that are comfortable or worth it. I love the idea of the EC planners but I know I would use it for two weeks and never touch it again.

I haven't exactly bought anything expensive because of a blog, but I have bought some health/beauty products because someone recommended them and I needed it. Like Stephanie recommended Vit E Butter from Body Shop, I love love love it! Kathy said Coconut Oil was great and I had been seeing lots of coconut oil recipes so I picked it up. Someone had posted a cute top at Target that I hadn't seen, so it prompted me to look at Target's clothes that weekend because I figured they must have gotten new stuff in.

  6. I'm so with you Lauren! I've purchased all sorts of stuff after reading about it on blogs. I'm always so, so curious as to where these bloggers get their seemingly endless spending accounts...especially the stay at home moms! I like my EC Life Planner, but am thinking about looking for something smaller for next year. Love my KS earrings. HATE my TB Revas. Bought one pair and will never purchase again. So uncomfortable and I went up a size! I've tried everything to stretch them. I can't think of any other big purchases I've made from blogs, but definitely lots of little things for the home and countless trips to Target.

  7. I love my flats and think they are worth the expense only because I wear them almost every day. I keep them under my desk at work.

And I love giving the Alex and Ani bracelets as gifts. They can be thoughtful and appeal to most everyone.

  8. I have none of these! Haha! But I'm with you, sometimes I see something on a blogger and think I NEED THAT!

  9. I'm cheap. I like soooo many things but have never actually done anything yet. Oh and my faves are mostly craft or home related, When it comes to fashion I'm out. I think I lost that sense when I was still in mom's womb!! The bracelet looks awesome though. Do the charms get caught on everything?

  10. The life planner. Oh, the life planner. I LUSTED SO DAMN HARD after one of those babies. I got sucked right into the hype and ordered the day the new 2012 planners were released and waited NOT so patiently for it to go through the entire production process and to be shipped. And then...I kind of hated it. I loved it, but I hated it. It was MASSIVE. And I had the kind of job where I had to carry it with me--so my cute, smaller bags were OUT for the entire year of 2012-early 2013. It was so expensive--and I couldn't wait to be done with it so I could go back to my trust $4 walmart planner!

  11. I have been wanting a pair of Tory Burch flats for years. I just cannot bring myself to spend that much for shoes! I am a cheapskate at heart ;)

  12. Blogland doesn't always sway me, but if there's something I want or have been looking for, I look to blogs for reviews and recommendations.
I actually love the EC planner but I think it's for a very specific type of person and they really don't market it as such. (Unlike Whitney English who I respect for telling people it's for the 'creative entrepreneur') The EC will definitely be a waste if you don't plan a certain way. I love the days - I can put my same things on the same spot right across the page. So right under 'night' is my daily cleaning task. Same spot, always there - perfect for my OCD tendencies. Most people do not live this way. But then again, I've never met a planner I did like ;)

  13. The only thing I have is a planner, but it's not super fancy like yours. It was $30 though, and I regret whining to my husband to get one for my birthday. We could have spent that $30 on something else! I totally fell for it because it was chevron pattern. My fave, but also because bloggers do it!

  15. Such a good post! I do so many things I wouldn't have if other bloggers werent so freaking persuasive!

  16. I always see that planner. And I always think it looks so damn cute. But then I remember that I'm cheap & I love the one that I've been buying at Walmart for the past few years.

  17. I've bought food and books because of a blogger. If something looks tasty, I feel like I must try it for myself.

  18. I always wanted an honest opinion on that planner and whether or not it was worth it. I think I'll stick to my Target one too :) And I love sharpie pens! Good pens are so hard to find!

  19. I have found and bought a lot of things that other bloggers have recommended and stay away from some that were reviewed as not worth it. However I don't own anything I don't feel is worth the money. I don't own any TB or KS or the EC planners. Bloggers tempt me more than anything to buy things though!

  20. Agreed on the flats, totally uncomfortable but cute..

  21. Definitely the planners! I love mine because it's fun and I love that it's personalized, but I will agree that it's way too big.

I didn't know Kendra Scott until blogging either. I think the Danielle ones are too big, but I LOVE my Elle ones. I need more!!

  22. I hardly buy anything because I saw it on a blog, but that's because I'm cheap. Unless it's for food or travel! BUT I did get one thing. I always heard about the Clarisonic Mia for face cleansing from blogs, so I gave the hubs a hint. he bought me the Clarisonic Aria, one step up from the Mia. Winner winner!

  23. I want Sharpie pens now, they sound awesome! And I wanted an Alex and Ani bracelet for awhile but I haven't made the plunge. The only two things I can think of that I bought because they were recommended on blogs both turned out to be disasters... MAC mascara, which I was allergic to and my eyes swelled up and watered so I couldn't see, and a stupid Clarisonic Mia 2, which was a waste of $150 bc I can't even use it on my sensitive skin!

  24. I am a Sharpie pen endorser. You saved me a billionty dollars on that not to be named planner. And I see 1000 girls a day in Tory Burch ballet flats. And then I saw how much they were and I was seriously surprised. I wear Cole Haan ballet flats because they have Nike Air bottoms. Booyah!

  25. I totally want a pair of Tory Burch shoes! But I am so cheap.

  26. Vino-2-Go is a total bloggy necessity.

  27. I want the Tory Burch flats, but I'll never be able to justify it!!

I do love me some Sharpie pens though!! :)

  28. I've definitely been almost sucked in to buying the planner...they're just so cute! But since I can never remember to use my tiny purse-sized one, I figured a less conveniently sized one would be a waste of money for me. I've definitely bought some hair and make-up products because of blogging, and so far none of those have been bad decisions.

  29. From now on, when I get jealous of another girl's Revas I will remind myself of this post! Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars, because let's be real, I probably would've bought some eventually...

  30. This is kind of an old post but I'll throw my opinion in any ways. I'm like most women, I want a pair of Tory flats ever since I saw a women wearing a pair. When I finally took the brave steps into a Tory Burch boutique I had an AMAZING sale associate helping me. We figured out the correct size and I had my first pair of Tory's. They still were a bit painful till they were broke in but once they are worn for a bit they are truly amazing. I've since bought close to 65 pairs. The only real difference between me and most women when it comes to these Tory's is I'm actually a guy.

    Hope your Tory's are comfy.

I like comments and read them all but I'm not great about responding to them, so please don't be offended. I would much rather visit your blog instead!
