some thoughts, in confession form

It's been too long since I linked up with my friend Kathy so here's what's happening, confessions style.

This has nothing to do with anything, but it's from a place near my house that specializes in building backyard ponds. I loved the HUGE lily pads that look like trays.

- Andrew and I are big on traditions. You may already know about Bullwinkle on the tree and he loves to have crabs on the first Sunday of football season. One year, before football season started, I lamented that we wouldn't be able to have Sunday brunch during the season and I was sad, so he took me to Hugo's for an amazing brunch buffet. And from that year on, we decided to go with it - the last Sunday before football brunchstravaganza. We went this past Sunday and it didn't disappoint. I confess that I ate so much that I didn't eat another real meal for over 24 hours.

- I confess that the amount of joy I felt when I realized Apple would replace my crappy phone battery for free was a bit on the ridiculous side. Not leaving home without a charger and charging at least three times a day made my phone a lot less mobile. It took two hours on a busy Sunday, but my phone is fixed and it feels so good. If you have an iPhone 5 with crappy battery life, see if your serial number was affected.

- Wedding planning and buying a house are similar in that money loses meaning. When you're getting married, it's all "Oh, we have to invite that family of five? What's $500 more in the grand scheme of things?" and then you snap back to reality and realize that there is no other time where you would ever spend that much to share a meal with those people but you do it because they're your family even though you've never met them. With our house, we just had to make a concession that cost us a few thousand dollars. House buying Lauren said why the hell not, let's get this thing sold. Real life Lauren freaked out a little internally because my first car didn't even cost that much. I confess that I'm trying to make sure Real Life Lauren stays out of matters until the papers are signed and we've moved.

- I confess that "collected and eclectic" is the look I'm going for in our new house but I really don't know what that means. Follow me on pinterest as I try to figure it out. (Sidebar, I found something I pinned three years ago that I forgot about that looks eerily like my current living room, so at least my tastes are consistent?)

- I confess that I still don't like or really get pinterest but it has helped me see that wrought iron beds can look cool and updated and I don't have to get an upholstered headboard just because they're everywhere (no offense but my cat will turn that into a scratching post at the first opportunity).

- Finally, I confess that I fell in love with Bath and Body Works' Caramel Bourbon candle over the weekend but $22 for a candle was crazy so I'm depending on blogs and twitter to tell me when they're on sale. Help this non B&BW shopper out!

For those following along with the house hunting saga at home, things are still looking good and if all goes according to plan, we close on buying the new house three weeks from today. I'm more excited for all the new things I can buy than the actual act of moving itself, but I think I'll be the most excited when it's all said and done. I will undoubtedly continue to update about it. Bet you're happy I stopped blogging five times a week!

  1. we're always on the lookout for a house that we like. even though i love the one we're in, I HATE OUR NEIGHBORS. hence, the constant home-hunting.

as for decorating, i have zero talent in that area; my husband does all of it and i gripe about the cost LOL

  2. These posts are so much fun to read. I love that you guys love traditions - we are the same.

"Collected and eclectic" haha! I like it! Can't wait to see what that looks like!

(Also, I can't buy scented candles that smell like food anymore... all I do is eat when the candle is burning.)

  3. I could eat brunch for every meal so I highly approve! The moving and packing blows but the actual getting to decorate, paint and find new places to go is fun!

  4. I love that you guys stick to traditions! Our schedules (and life) are never consistent enough to allow for that except for during the holidays. I think we need to follow your lead and introduce a few here and there. I'm so glad things are coming together with the house! I know exactly what you mean about money having no meaning in that sort of situation. Let Real Life Lauren take a vacation for the next few weeks haha! Cam would shred an upholstered headboard in thirty seconds flat.

  5. I am definitely checking my phone serial number- my battery sucks. Also, I think I love your brunch tradition. It's hands down my favorite meal and love that you ensure a good one before Sundays are football monopolized.

  6. I enjoy pinterest, but there are people that pin stuff every day and I don't understand that obsession. It is convenient though for remembering something I would probably otherwise forget.

  7. Housebuying is a crazy, ridiculous, stressful thing. But totally worth it in the end (or that has been my experience in the last year since we bought our first house). Good luck!

Pinterest can be a time suck, but I think for home & style stuff it's kind of awesome because it allows you to at least get a general idea of your style. Which can be hard when you just walk into a store and there are ALL THE THINGS.

  8. Collected and eclectic is my style too, I'm looking forward to scouring the local thrift stores for stuff now that the tourist aren't here to buy it all up!

I still love Pinterest, I think it's because I'm a visual person in general.

  9. My decor is eclectic. That's the word I use to describe "I find things I love and put them where I want and don't really care if anyone else likes it." LOLOL Real Life Lauren, sit down until this is over!

Apple says my phone is not affected, but I beg to differ. I charge a zillion times a freaking day.

  11. First of all, can I live in that picture? Like pretty please?

I am waiting for the B&BW candles to go on sale too! They always go 2 for $22 throughout each season so if one of us sees it, we need to let the other know! I refuse to pay full price for that! They really are the best candles though!

Fingers crossed on the house!!! I love the style you are thinking! So awesome!

  12. the money thing. Buying a house and getting married in the same year = money just means nothing anymore. I'm going to hate myself so much by this time next year. UGH

  14. Exciting news about the house process moving forward on both ends! Good news is that BBW has LOTS of sales/coupons so you almost never have to pay full price. If you want to stock up on your fav candle make sure you hit the semi-annual sale there after Christmas. They will liquidate all of the fall/winter inventory. (Oh did I mention I used to work at BBW - so I know all the tricks!)

  16. "Collected and eclectic" ... I like that style, even if it's not fully defined ;) It *is* crazy how money loses meaning when you're looking at houses... we bought ours 2 years ago and it was surreal talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars. Best of luck with the house hunt!

  19. B&BW just had a huge candle sale... 2 for $22! I got SIX!

  20. I haven't had brunch in a really long time because I am always starving about an hour after I get up.

I'm with Kathy, I don't know how to decorate! I have some pics saved with some ideas that I like but otherwise, I can't think of the stuff on my own.

I have been really liking the upholstered beds. I am not one to jump on the "trend bandwagon" but I really like those!

  21. Awesome! I hope you found a great area!

Are those lily pads real? Crazy!

I am so thankful my iPhone was not affected. WHEW! My battery dies often but it's because of my child opening every single app and playing it non stop for hours... but glad your phone is fixed!

Can't wait to see new house info!
